Banikhet

Banikhet is situated in the Dhauladhar range of the Himalayas at an altitude of 5,500 feet above the sea level.Seven kms short of Dalhousie is Banikhet - the gateway to Dalhousie. At Banikhet the road bifurcates for Chamba and Dalhousie. This small place has gained importance with the setting-up of residential colony of Chamera Hydro-electric Project.

A Nag temple in Padhar Maidan now called mini stadium is a place of worship for the people of Banikhet and villages around. The temple is approximately 150 years old. Banikhet is one of the most beautiful places in Himachal Pradesh, with a daytime temperature of 25º C and the night temperature of about 15º C. The temperate climate of Banikhet adds delight to sightseeing in the territory.

Khajjiar

Khajjiar is often reffered to as "Mini Switzerland of India ". The lush green meadows are surrounded by thick pine and cedar forests. Grazing herds of sheep, goats and other milch cattle present a prefect pastoral scenery. There is a small lake in the center of the saucer shaped meadow which has in it a floating island. Much of the lake has degenerated into slush because of heavy silting during rains. Still the landscape of Khajjiar is picturesque and a photographer's delight.

A little away from the lake is the temple of Khajji Nag belonging to 12th C. AD which is worth visiting. During trip to hill station Khajjiar the famous holiday destination of India enjoy peaceful stay at resorts and Hotels in Khajjiar, Chamba.

Manimahesh

Manimahesh is in the south-eastern corner of Chamba District. It lies at an altitude of 5,656 m, near the Chamba-Kullu border. The town is around 6 km south of Dancho and 6 km north-west of Bajoli. Manimahesh is an ideal trekking destination. Manimahesh Lake lies 4800 meters above the sea level. It is therefore a high altitude Lake in Himachal Pradesh. It is believed that Lord Shiva one of the three Lords in Hindu Trinity (known as Lord Brahma the creator, Lord Vishnu the Preserver and Lord Siva the destroyer) stays at Manimahesh Kailash.Followers of Lord Shiva visit Manimahesh Kailash during Shivaratri and other festivals related to Lord Shiva to obtain the blessings of their beloved Lord. They firmly believe that a dip into the Lake would bring in peace and wash all their past sins

Chamba

CHAMBA - The land of mystic serenity

Chamba became the capital only in the 8th century and at the instance of Chamba, daughter of Rajesh Sahil Verma, who selected the present site and had it removed from Bharmour, 70 km away, also giving the new capital her name. Regular buses link Chamba with Dalhousie and Pathankot. Chamba is 56 km (via Banikhet), on the right bank of the Ravi at an altitude of 915 metres (3,000 ft) from Dalhousie and 122 km from Pathankot. There is also a 30 km long-foot path from Dalhousie to Chamba via Khajjiar which passes through thick deodar forests. Chamba lies in the bosom of the Himalayas. The high season runs from mid-April to mid-July, mid-September to mid-November and mid-December to early January. For a large many people of Bengal, Maharashtra and Gujarat, Dalhousie, inexpensive and unspoilt from the crowds that throng to other hill stations, continued to be popular. Film companies found the locale ideal with its quiet beauty and concommitant amenities, including besides, Dalhousie resorts, clubs, cinema houses, skating rink and Hotels in Dalhousie.

Nearby is the Thermal Maidan, which is a meadow stretching for nearly three kilometers and Tagore Marg, a stately avenue flanked by pine and cedar. A small picturesque saucer-shaped plateau surrounded by dense pine and deodar forests, is one of the 160 places throughout the world to have been designated "Mini Switzerland". The moment one enters the picturesque Khajjiar one is welcomed by a yellow Swiss sign for 'hiking path' which reads "Mini Switzerland".
