Sangla

Situated at the height of 2860 meters the largest and the most beautiful village of Sangla is also Tehsil Headquarter 18 km from Karchham. A link road that goes off the National Highway No. 22 in to the Sangla or Baspa valley offers an glorious vista at every curve. The valley opens up beyond Sangla and is full of wooded slopes as far as Chitkul the last inhabited village in the valley of Sangla surrounded by green fields and high mountains.

Kamru village situated at a distance of 2 km from Sangla at the height of 2800 meters offer a panoramic view of fertile land of Sangla valley and high rise mountains. Kamru has a double storey temple which is dedicated to Badri Nath and a Budhist Gompa. There is another ancient temple dedicated to Bhimakali The Kinner Kailash peak (6050 meters) dominates the view.

Reckong Peo

(2,760 metres) Reckong Peo is the headquarter of the district is located in the North-Eastern part of Himachal Pradesh. Kinnaur shares its Eastern boundary with Tibet. The Zanskar mountains form the international frontier between Kinnaur and Tibet. Kinnaur is a tribal area of Himachal Pradesh in true style. The breathtaking Sangla valley offers the visitors the breathtaking view of captivating lush green orchards in the lap of majestic mountains covered with pure and dazzling white snow.

The district has a number of valleys varying in altitude from 1000 metres to 4000 metres. Pooh

Pooh - also known as 'Spuwa' - is situated 58 km from Powari along National Highway 22, at an altitude of 2,837 m. This small town is well known for its natural beauty, green fields, apricot orchards, vineyards and almond trees. Historical evidences, such as inscriptions, suggest that Pooh was an important trading center in the early 11th century. The main attraction of Pooh is a Buddhist temple dedicated to Sakyamuni or Lord Buddha. The shrine has wooden columns supporting a high ceiling and a circumambulatory path around the altar.

The local god is called Dabla, who neither has any dwelling nor possesses an ark. The only manifestation of the deity is a pole with a small idol set on its upper portion and adorned with yak tail hair and long pieces of coloured cloth.

Nako

Nako lake is surrounded by willow and polar trees. There is a small village on the bank of this lake - and the village seems to be half buried by the lake's borders. On the water's northern side, are four Buddhist temples with stucco images and murals. Near Nako is a footprint-like impression ascribed to the saint Padmasambhava. It freezes in winter and people enjoy skating on this lake.Nako Lake is a pilgrim destination for the Buddhists.

Because the Nako Lake is situated at such a great height, there are only a few species of fishes that populate the lake. Anglers coming here with their fishing rods come mainly to while away their time in the beautiful surroundings of the lake. One can observe numerous species of birds and flying overhead at Nako Lake. KINNAUR - A Roof Under The Sky

Travel Destination Kinnaur is situated on the Indo Tibetan border and is one of the famous adventure tourist destination of Himachal. It is bordered by Tibet to the East and Garhwal, Himalyas to the South. This stunning place is at a distance of 200km from Shimla. It houses the river Satluj that flows through the high mountains. The river rises on the southern slopes of Kailash Mountain, near Mansarovar in Tibet and passes through the Kinnaur valley. Most of the villages in Kinnaur have a gompa (temple). Kinnaur is a border district, located in the southeastern part of the northern state of Himachal Pradesh. It is about 250 km from the capital Shimla and is situated on National Highway No. 22, which is also called the Hindustan-Tibet Road.

The landscape of the area varies from the lush green orchards of the Sangla Valley to the stark magnificence of the Hangrang Valley. There are about 77 villages in the district and Kalpa is one of the biggest of them. There are almost no urban centers. Two turbulent rivers race through Kinnaur-the Sutlej and the Spiti. The slopes are covered with thick forests, while the basins hold orchards, fields and picturesque hamlets. Kinnaur holds three of world's grandest mountain ranges-the Zanskar, the Greater Himalaya, and the Dhauladhar-and the famous 4,573-meter-high Kinner Kailash mountain by whose side is the seventy-nine foot vertical rock formation that resembles a Shivalinga and changes color as the day passes.
